Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is an is a Pakistani singer, primarily of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Muslim Sufis. His real name is Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is a Pakistani singer, primarily of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Muslim Sufis.
He is the nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Ustad Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, he also performs ghazals and other light music. He is popular as a Bollywood and Lollywood playback singer. In 2014, he won “Best Singer Male” for Zinda Bhaag at the 1st ARY Film Awards. In 2012, he won “Best Selling Download” at the UK Asian Music Awards for the song Teri Meri from the film Bodyguard.
He performed very first time at the age of nine at the death anniversary of his grandfather. From age fifteen, after years of intimate study, he was made an integral part of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s qawwali party which came to be known throughout the world.
Personal Life :- Rahat was born on December 9, 1973 in Faisalabad, Pakistan into a family of Qawwals and traditional musicians. He is the nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Ustad Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and also the grandson of legendary Qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan.
In the year 1985 at the young age of 10 or 11 years, he gave his very first public performance while he was out touring U.K with his uncle. There, apart from singing with the Qawwali group, he had also performed some solo songs. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan tied the knot to Nidah Fateh Ali Khan who was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s daughter. They have a son by the name of Shaadman born in the year 2007.
Career :- Rahat was chosen by his uncle Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for tutoring in the traditions of Qawwali music and was precociusly singing with his uncle and father by the age of three. At the age of seven he began formal training with his uncle and he performed first time in public at the age of nine at the death anniversary of his grandfather.
He sang lollywood playback in the 90s and debuted as a playback singer in Bollywood with the movie Paap (2004), featuring the hit song, Mann Ki Lagan. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan had also appeared on television as a judge along with Sonu Nigam, for the reality show ‘Chhote Ustad 2’. In the year 2008 he had also judged the singing reality television show called ‘Junoon- Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka’, aired on NDTV Imagine.
