Lata Mangeshkar is an Indian singer, and occasional music-composer was born on 28 September 1929. Lata Mangeshkar is popularly called as the Nightingale of India. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Mangeshkar’s career started in 1942. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages. She is the second vocalist to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world. The claim was that she had recorded approximately 25,000 solo, duet, and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 to 1974. She is the most respected singer in India today.

Personal Life :- Lataji born in a musical family in Sikh Mohalla, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Her father Dinanath Mangeshkar was a classical singer as well as he was owner of a theatrical company called Balwant Sangeet Mandali. Lataji took her first singing lessons from her father at the age of five and her father died in 1942 after 7 days of her father die, she started sung song and her sister Asha, now known as Asha Bhosle is also a renowned singer.

Career :-  In 1942, when Mangeshkar was 13, her father died of heart disease. Vinayak Damodar Karnataki the owner of Navyug Chitrapat movie company and a close friend of the Mangeshkar family, took care of them. He helped Lata get started in a career as a singer and actress. Lata Mangeshkar made her debut as playback singer with the Marathi film ‘Kitti Haasaal’ in 1942. Being a member of Rao’s company, Lataji’s monthly salary was of Rupees 60. In 1945, Rao’s company shifted to big city Mumbai and also Lataji along with company moved to Mumbai. Lataji made her debut as singer in Hindi movies with the film Aapki Sewa Mein (1947). In the 1950s, Mangeshkar sang songs composed by various music directors of the period. Mangeshkar won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Salil Chowdhury’s composition “Aaja Re Pardesi,” from Madhumati (1958). On 27 January 1963, against the backdrop of the Sino-Indian War, Mangeshkar sang the patriotic song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo” in the presence of Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. In 1972, Meena Kumari’s last film, Pakeezah, was released. It featured popular songs including “Chalte Chalte” and “Inhi Logon Ne” sung by Lata Mangeshkar. On 28 November 2012, Lata Mangeshkar launched her own music label LM Music with an album of bhajans. She sang along with younger sister Usha on the album.
