Alka Yagnik is an Indian playback singer was born on 20 Mrch, 1966 in Calcutta, India. Alka born in a musical Gujarati family. Her parents were also always fond of Indian classical music. Alka got her break as a playback singer with the film ‘Payal Ki Jhankar’ in 1997.
She is a record seven-time winner from a record of 35 nominations of the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, a two-time recipient of the National Film Award as well as several other music awards & honours.
Personal Life :- Alka Yagnik was born on 20 March 1966 in Kolkata. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was a singer of Indian classical music. She received her school education from Modern High School for Girls.
In 1972 at the age of six, she started singing for Akashvani (All India Radio), Calcutta. At age 10, her mother took her to Mumbai as a child singer and start her singing career.
Career :- Alka got her first break as a playback singer with the film ‘Payal Ki Jhankar’ in 1979. followed by Laawaris (1981) with the song “Mere Angane Mein“, followed by the film Hamari Bahu Alka (1982). She got her big break with the song “Ek Do Teen” from the film Tezaab (1988). The song won her a Filmfare Best Female Playback Award.
Since then she had given many hits with her soft, mellow and romantic voice. Alka also has many Filmfare Awards on her credit. Alka also has sung for regional films in different languages such as Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. Alkaji recently appeared as judge to the renowned TV talent shows- Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs (2006) and Voice of India (2007).
She has sung 2,485 Hindi songs in 1,114 films. She is the fifth most prolific Bollywood singer of all time after Asha Bhosle (7866 songs), Lata Mangeshkar (5596 songs), Mohammed Rafi (4,778 songs) and Kishore Kumar (2,703 songs).
