The Boxing Day Test match is a cricket Test match in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia involving the Australian cricket team and an opposing national team which is touring Australia that summer. It begins annually on Boxing Day (26 December) and is played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Every four years, the Boxing Day Test forms part of the five-match Ashes series with England.

The Boxing Day Test — the biggest cricket match in an Australian summer. India have only one option when the battle resumes on Friday, get out there at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and show they can not just match up against Australia, but go one better and trump them, something they have just failed to do in the first two Tests of this series.

Australia finished Day One of the third Test against India in Melbourne on 259 for five on what was a good day of cricket.

With a 2-0 lead in hand, Australia need merely a draw to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy while India have to win both the remaining two Tests to hold on to the trophy.
